Close to 50,000 runners of 126 nationalities ran through some of Singapore’s iconic heritage locations in a cool morning. Most runners welcomed the new route as a refreshing change. The running experience was enhanced by the plentiful hydration / aid stations, accurate distance markings, an adequate number of marshalls and volunteers as well as a number of happenings along the route. However, many runners reported problems with baggage deposit, as the long queues caused some of them to be late for the flag off.

Managing Director of IRONMAN Asia Geoff Meyer shared his thoughts post-race saying “This year, we’ve made some important changes to deliver the best edition of SCSM yet. We are confident that all participants really enjoyed the new route and features like mist tunnels, added hydration stations, and variety of entertainment. The experience on the home stretch as runners got to the finish line was truly spectacular and allowed participants to be focal point right in the heart of the action. The team has already begun building on learnings from this year to enhance the race experience when the race returns on 8 and 9 December 2018.”

Kids Dash (Saturday 2 December)

Christmas came early for 5,000 children as they raced down the spectacularly illuminated Orchard Road – to mark the start of the 16th Standard Chartered Singapore Marathon (SCSM).

Together with their parents, children aged 1 – 13 raced their way over the 600m course from the start line outside Ngee Ann City, to the finish line outside ION Orchard.

Adding to the festive atmosphere was a Christmas carnival which flanked the Orchard Road route, providing the perfect Saturday evening family outing.

  1. Hi,
As participance for full marathon yesterday was not pleasant due to the extremely long queue for the bag deposit point.
I am reach at 3.45am, 45 min ahead of the starting timing. Yet i get to deposit the bag at only 5.15am..
when get to the starting point. i was mixed with the crowed with the half marathon participance.
Which i am an hour disadvantage 🙁

    • you are better than us. we reached 3:45am and deposit the bag around 6 am. one event staff told us to transfer to other venue near PEN E for bag deposit and no queue but disappointed when we reached there , long and slower queue. can you imagine what time we started our 42km? very discouraging experience. my fist and last full marathon in SCSM.

  2. I’ve indicated my T-shirt size (L) when registered for the marathon. However, when completed the run yesterday, L size was no longer available for the finisher T. I was given M size instead and was told I could request for change, may I know how do I go about doing so pls? Thank you.

  3. After running 42km they said no more L finizher T shirts for men. How can that be when these are order on demand during registration? I was told to take a S. Joke. How can I get my L tshirt now?

  4. I am also another victim from this year organising committee of not getting my well deserved XL T-shirt. Please help us by doing justice to us all.

  5. I was geared up for the biggest race of the year in my lovely country, Spore, however facing a poor & bad Marathon experience that brought me down my wonderful sport throughout the whole entire race.
    1. 1.5hrs trapped in the bus due massive jam along North Bridge Road.
    2. 1.5km walked from unintended drop off point at Stamford Road to the start point at Orchard Rd and seeing elite runners already approaching SMU near Fort Canning Link.
    3. Not given opportunity to warm up.
    4. Not worth paying of $7 for shuttle bus
    5. Total disappointment.

Hope the organiser learn from a bad experience, examine the weakness and nail down what went wrong. Change thing for the better next time and use bad ones to produce good ones.

This kind of poor arrangement by organiser is the kind that scares people to run another race next year. I believe this ugly caused can be completely avoidable.

  6. A disgraceful event, totally unbecoming of an international race.
The bag drop was a process engineer’s nightmare with no less than six steps undertaken by different staff before a bag could be dropped! And not a single crew in sight to assist the race participants in the queue.
I started my race one hour after the scheduled race time – a first for me!
No attempt or announcements were made on taking selfies during the race. I had a spectacular and nasty tumble while attempting to avoid a selfie taker at the first km mark!
I did not see a single race spectator throughout the race – they were either completely silent or out of sight.
Upon finishing the race, another nightmare: queueing at the bag retrieval!
In all, a most unsatisfactory race experience more akin to a racer’s nightmare.

  7. i am utterly disappointed with the design of the medal.
the word SINGAPORE was ‘cut’ into 3; SIN, GAP,ORE. Gosh, this is the name of a Nation.
    who has approved this???
