The Singapore Cancer Society (SCS) brings you our charity run, SingTel & SCS 2009 Race Against Cancer, for those who enjoy a run and want to help for a good cause at the same time.
Where do the proceeds go?
Proceeds from the run go to fund our various programmes, such as cancer treatment subsidy, hospice home care, welfare assistance for needy cancer patients, free cancer screenings, public education initiatives and helping children whose lives have been affected by cancer.
Who are you helping?
We have set up the SCS Help the Children & Youth programme to help children afflicted with cancer or children who have cancer-stricken parents. Usually coping with a sick parent or being ill themselves can be a challenging experience for a child who is confronted with the unknown and range of emotions. This programme provides support in 4 areas - the school allowance grant and bursary scheme, counselling, mentoring and family engagement services.
The Society helps more than 1,000 needy cancer patients and reaches out to some 40,000 individuals in our community outreach programmes to encourage screening and early detection of cancers.
