The Standard Chartered Mumbai Marathon is the largest marathon in Asia, and the largest mass participation event on the continent. Held annually on the third Sunday of January every year, it drew over 40,000 runners in its last edition. The race has 6 categories, including the full, half, corporate Ekiden (4-person relay), 6km Dream Run, 4.3km Senior Citizens Event and the 2.4km Champions with Disability Event. The race is frequently graced with the presence of Bollywood celebrities, sports stars, business tycoons and amateur athletes. It is India’s largest charity platform for non-profit organisations to raise funds, and was the youngest marathon to be awarded the "Flame of the Marathon".
The course route commences at the Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus, and features several iconic locations such as Trident Hotel, Wankhede Stadium, the Babulnath Temple Flora Fountain, Marine Drive, Chowpatty, Haji Ali, Mahim Church, and the Bandra–Worli Sea Link. At the spectacular Rajiv Ghandi Sea Link, the course will turn east toward the Lilavati Hospital and follow the Mahim Causeway until they reach the original racecourse, finishing where it began.
